GlowShift Transmission Temperature Sensors can be installed in three locations, depending on your vehicle and the type of temperature reading you want.

Transmission Test Port: Some transmissions have a test port that was originally designed for checking transmission line pressure. This is a convenient location for the temperature sensor, although not every transmission is equipped with one. Most test ports accept the sensor directly, while some may require a Transmission Test Port Extender. Always verify the thread size of the test port before installation. GlowShift testing has found that the test port provides an accurate transmission temperature reading.

Transmission Cooler Line: Another option is installing a T-fitting in the transmission cooler line. This measures the temperature of the transmission fluid as it exits the transmission and flows toward the cooler. GlowShift offers T-fittings for 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8" cooler lines. Measure the outside diameter of your cooler line to determine the correct fitting size.

Transmission Pan: The sensor can also be installed directly into the transmission pan using a Transmission Temperature Sensor Adapter Kit. This is typically the most involved installation method because it requires draining the transmission fluid, removing and cleaning the pan, drilling a hole, installing the adapter, and reinstalling the pan with a new gasket. This method measures the temperature of the fluid collected in the transmission pan.

When accessing the transmission test port, GlowShift recommends using a vehicle lift or properly rated jack and jack stands to provide safe access during installation.
