What is the recommended installation location and procedure for my EGT Probe?Updated an hour ago

 For the most accurate Exhaust Gas Temperature readings, GlowShift recommends installing the EGT Probe in the exhaust manifold where the exhaust from all cylinders combines, before the turbo. The probe can typically be installed within 6–8 inches of the turbo.

When installing the EGT Probe, follow these guidelines:

• Drill and Tap: Drill the exhaust manifold using an R-size drill bit, then tap the hole to 1/8"-27 NPT.

• Probe Depth: The tip of the EGT Probe should extend no more than halfway into the exhaust manifold. Installing the probe too far in or not far enough can result in inaccurate readings.

• Ferrule Tightening: Position the probe at the proper depth, then tighten the ferrule until it is snug, followed by an additional quarter turn. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the EGT Probe and cause inaccurate readings.

• Anti-Seize: Any type of anti-seize compound may be used on the EGT Probe threads.

• Steel Braided Cable: The steel braided cable can withstand more heat than a standard harness, but we still recommend keeping it at least 6 inches away from direct heat sources whenever possible.

• Remove Metal Shavings: After drilling and tapping the exhaust manifold, make sure no metal shavings enter the turbocharger housing. A pen magnet and vacuum can help remove any remaining debris.
