To properly tap a hole for a gauge fitting, first drill the hole to the correct size for the tap being used. Position the tap so it is perpendicular to the surface at a 90-degree angle to ensure the threads are cut evenly.

Before tapping, apply an appropriate amount of tapping oil to the tap. Slowly turn the tap into the drilled hole a few threads at a time, then back the tap out slightly to clear the material from the threads. Continue this process until the hole is fully tapped.

Take your time and avoid forcing the tap, as this can damage the threads or break the tap.
